<div> The History of Sa‘d ibn Abi Waqqas Sa‘d ibn Abi Waqqas (RA) was one of the closest companions of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and among the ten companions who were promised Paradise (Ashara Mubasharuun bil Jannah). His full name was Sa‘d ibn Malik ibn Uhayb ibn Abd Manaf, but he is famously known as Sa‘d ibn Abi Waqqas. He was born in Makkah around 595 CE, from the Quraysh tribe. Sa‘d embraced Islam at a very young age, around 17 years old, when Abu Bakr As-Siddeeq (RA) invited him to Islam. He was among the earliest converts and one of the first seven men who openly declared their faith. Sa‘d was known for his bravery, sincerity, and devotion. He was also the first Muslim to shoot an arrow in defense of Islam. During the battles of Badr, Uhud, and other campaigns, he fought with great courage. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) once said: ”This is my maternal uncle. If anyone has an uncle like him, let him show me.” He was the commander of the Muslim army in the famous Battle of al-Qadisiyyah (636 CE), where the Muslims defeated the Persian Empire, leading to the expansion of Islam into Iraq and Persia. Later, he also founded the city of Kufa in Iraq. Sa‘d was known for his piety and humility. Despite his achievements, he lived a simple life and avoided worldly temptations. He was also known for his answered prayers (Du‘a), and people greatly respected him for that. He lived a long life and passed away around 674 CE (55 AH) in al-‘Aqiq, near Madinah. He was the last of the Ashara Mubasharuun (the ten promised Paradise) to die. He was buried in al-Baqi‘ cemetery in Madinah. 👉 In short, Sa‘d ibn Abi Waqqas (RA) was a courageous warrior, a trusted companion of the Prophet (PBUH), a brilliant military leader, and a devout Muslim who dedicated his life to Islam.
